Travel trouble

妻の友人がデンマークに到着。
夕食が終わってお土産を彼女の宿泊先に受け取りに行って、帰宅した後それは起こった。

One of my wife's friend is visiting us in Denmark.
It happened when we came home after we took her gifts from Japan.

家に電話があり彼女の部屋のドアが中から開かないらしい。
で、一般的にデンマークのフラットの鍵には癖があるので電話で色々と様子を聞きながらアドバイスするが、どうにも開かないとの返事。埒が開かない。ドアも開かない。
尚、そこのフラットに自分達が行っても建物のキー、フラットのキーがないと問題のルームキーのところに辿り着けない。

We got a call from her that she could not open the locked door of her room from inside.
Generally, the locking system for door of apartment in Denmark is slightly different from Japanese one.
So I tried to explain about that hearing the detail about her surroundings with phone.
But her challenge to open was totally in vain.
By the way, even if we get there, we cannot reach her room because there are 3 locking part.
The building portal, the flat portal and her locked room door.

というわけでBed&Breakfastのオーナーに電話。
もう時間が23時なので案の定、留守番電話対応だった。
とりあえずメッセージを入れるが話している途中で終わったので、もう一度電話。
二回メッセージを入れた結果、向こうからすぐに折り返しの電話がかかってきた。
話を端折ると、隣のピザ屋に話をして合鍵を渡すから、そこまで行けるかという話になり、それなら我々自身が建物に向かうと返答した。

So, we called the owner of the flat which is Bed and Breakfast.
As I expected, the answering machine answered my call because it was already 11 p.m.
While I was talking to answering machine, it stopped. So I called again to finish my message.
As soon as I hung up my phone, the owner called me back.
Her suggestion was, in short, she would call and ask Pizza shop which is next to the building of BB to pass a key so that we can enter into the flat. And we agreed with it.

で、暫くしてB＆Bに自転車で到着。話のピザ屋は閉まっていて真っ暗。ただ、建物のメインゲートは施錠されていなかったのでホールに入ってみる。だが、フラットのキーが無いのでそこから先には進めない。
さて、どうしたものかと考えを巡らしている時に、閉じ込められている彼女が窓から顔を出しているのを妻が見つけ、こちらは階段質から顔を出し会話をすることはできた。
但し、どちらもフラットのキーを開けられないことに変わりはない。
仕方が無いので再度B＆Bに電話して、入れない旨を伝える。ピザ屋が23時に閉店するのを忘れていたと言う。おいおい頼むぜ。電気がついていない時点で予想はしてたけど。

Then, we arrived at the building by bicycles after a while. But the light of the pizza shop was completely off and dark.
Fortunately, the main gate of the building was unlocked and we could enter the hall.
However, of course it was impossible to go advance without the key of falt.
While I was wondering how to do, she looked around out of the window of her room and my wife found her.
They could communicate each other in that way, but it doesn't mean we could solve the basic problem.
Then I called the owner again, and I informed that the pizza shop was closed. And she said she forgot that it was over 11 p.m. Damn....

で、どうすりゃいいんだと言うと、建物を外に出て右に曲がり、インド料理のレストランに入ってくれとのこと。何故かは知らんが、とりあえず指令どおりに入る。話こんでいたインド人のグループにジロジロ見られたが気にしないぞ。
で、店の人に代わってくれというので電話を店のマスターに渡して会話をしてもらう。B＆Bの人がデンマーク語で説明しているようだ。
で、マスターが付いて来いというので厨房に進入。そのまま厨房を抜けると、中庭に出た！
で、電話を彼から返してもらいもう一度BBの人に代わる。窓から鍵を投げてもらい、それを使ってゴミ捨て時に使う階段室を上がってフラットの中へ入るよう指示された。
なるほど、中庭に入ったのは投げた鍵を拾えるようにするためだったか。そして、中に今の時間に行く経路はインド料理屋だけだったと。

So, I asked her what to do and she gave me an instruction to go out of the building and turn right and go into the Indian restaurant.
Indian restaurant? I was wondering but anyway I behaved as she suggested.
And she asked me to hand my phone to the master of the restaurant. They seemed to talked about something in Danish.
A little bit later, he told me to follow him and I passed its kitchen and ... I was in a courtyard of the block!
Now I could see her by the window I could get the ring of keys after she throwed it down.

尚、google earth等で上空からの写真を見ると分かるのだが、コペンハーゲンの大抵の建物は、中庭を囲むような構成になっているので連続した建物は同じ中庭を共有しているのだ。
で、鍵をキャッチした後は指示通りに中庭側の鍵を開け、階段室を上がるとフラット内のキッチンに出た！

Incidentally, I would like to show the top view around Copenhagen. As you can see, general building stands side by side so that they enclose one courtyard. In other words, continuous buildings share same courtyard.
Anyway,I locked the door facing courtyard which connects the kitchen in the flat.

ホールで待っていた妻のためフラットのキーを内側から開錠して招き入れた後、問題の部屋へ。
外から開けるといとも簡単に開いた。試しに二人に外に出てもらい、自分が中から鍵をかけてみる。
色々試してみるが開かない。どうもガタがきているようだ。
今度は自分が部屋から出られなくなったので、キッチンから中庭に出た妻に鍵を窓から落とし、再び外から開けてもらった。とにかく一度施錠すると外に出られなくなるので、今晩はルームキーを施錠しないで中でトランクなどで物理的に開かないようにして寝てもらうことにした。幸いフラット内の他の部屋にいる泊り客は女性二人のようだし。

I opened the door for the flat portal so that my wife could come in.
I tried to open the door from outside and it was so easy to open it. In case, I locked the key from inside and confirmed I could not open. There seemed to have something wrong with the keyhole.
Now I myself was stucked in the room. So, I throwed the key ring down then my wife could get it and opened the door in the same manner.

で、一応彼女を部屋から救出できた旨と、鍵の調子が悪いので明日から別の部屋に変えてもらうリクエストをB&Bに電話で伝えてミッション完了。所要時間1時間也。
どうなることかと思ったが、振り返ってみるとリアルなアドベンチャーゲームのようで面白かった。
今回のトラブルを解決したことで、英会話についても大きな自信に繋がったように思う。

Then, I called the owner and told her that we could help her and asked to prepare another room.
Mission complete. It took about 1 hour.
If I look back, it was exciting experience like a real adventure game.
And having overcome such difficulties, it gave me a sort of big confidence as to English communication.
